| | George W. Carver (Circa 1860 Description: Item # 1907 Although born to a slave woman owned by Moses Carver, George Washington Carver was actually raised by the Carvers as their own son. Beginning his education in a one-room school house, George entered Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, in 1887. From there he transfered to what is now Iowa State University where he earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Agriculture. While serving as Agricultural Director at Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, he developed his crop rotation method which revolutionized farming in the South.
